MaguraGerman manufacturer of components for bicycles (and motorcycles), rescues the name of Gustaf for its new creation. And this name, which corresponds to the founder of this brand, is intended for the most demanding and exclusive products in the manufacturer’s catalogue. In fact, it was the name given to the first hydraulic disc brakes for bicycles launched by Magura. The new Gustav Pro They are 4-piston disc brakes that stand out for offering high braking power.

To this end, it has been decided to provide 4 pistons per caliper and, what is less common, one brake pad per piston. Furthermore, since what is sought with these new brakes is to have maximum precision on longer descents, later braking points and also spend less time in the workshop, Magura ensures that all the new parts, have been taken to a higher level thanks to an oversizing of their components: for example, the brake discs are 2.5 mm thick (with a high wear limit of 2.1 mm) and the pistons are 19 mm of length.

The new brake set is geared towards the tough handling of mountain eBikes.

Even the brake pads have increased in size.

The brake pads, for their part, are also thicker than usual: according to Magura, they have 40% more volume which makes them more durable even in extreme conditions of use. Another detail is the volume of the hydraulic oil: in the new Gustav Pro it has been decided to provide the system with double the volume of oil in the expansion tank (7 ml), thereby achieving, according to the brand, that the purging operations.

The levers, for their part, are made of Carbotecture, a composite material in which carbon fiber is present. With all this, they are not very heavy brakes: Magura declares 348 g for each wheel (lever, caliper, hose and disc). By the way, these brakes are compatible with ABS system which the German firm itself has carried out in collaboration with Bosch.

The handle is made of Carbotecture.

To make maintenance tasks even easier, the levers incorporate EASY LINK technology that allows a simple ‘plug’n play’ connection between the hose and the brake master cylinder, which means that we can put or remove said hose as many times as we want. , either for maintenance or because we want to shorten it.

The caliper features a design that is new to the Magura catalogue.

One last detail: these new brakes inaugurate a new design that has remained unchanged in recent years, with a very modern aesthetic. The price of the set (with discs included) is 299 €. More information at: Magura Gustav PRO
