Helicopters are aerial vehicles widely used in the most varied areas.. Initially developed for transporting personnel, there are now also attack models for armies, others that can clear the skies and even help us explore Mars, such as Ingenuity. Now Airbus has improved the original design thanks to an investment of 200 million dollars.

The Airbus company is well known, the firm has built some of the largest and most used commercial aircraft on the planet. Apart from that, it also has a large technological department that investigates how to improve existing designs. This is the case of the new Racer helicopter, an aerial vehicle that is halfway between a helicopter and an ordinary airplane.

It is a helicopter with airplane parts and it is the fastest on the market

At first glance Racer undoubtedly looks like a helicopter like any other, but if we get closer we will see that in addition to two rotors it also has two wings with forward-facing propellers on each side. This results in it being able to take off vertically, which is typical for a helicopter, but it can travel faster thanks to these wings.

Helicopters used by civilian agencies can fly at around 200 kilometers per hour. In the military, the most powerful and aerodynamic designs such as the Black Hawk or Chinook stay at speeds ranging from 295 to 302 kilometers per hour. The Racer can exceed the 400-kilometer-per-hour mark. In fact, The only prototype built reached 472 kilometers per hour in 2013.

Of course, Airbus has made a series of statements collected by The Next Web in which it points out that speed is not everything, but also the environmental impact of this vehicle. According to the characteristics made public, the Racer pollutes less than other helicopters on the market, which is also good news. Specifically, a reduction in emissions is expected. 20% in fuel consumption and therefore in CO2 emissions.

Airbus has announced that the cost of Racer has been 200 million dollars. This modest price includes all the design, development and manufacturing, which means that it has not been as expensive as expected. However, the company has already announced that it will not manufacture more until Racer has future interested parties and buyers who place orders.

In conclusion, we are still a long way from seeing Racer helicopters flying in our cities, perhaps they will never arrive, we will see. However, we are sure that The greater speed and maneuverability could be very useful when applied to emergency cases. such as accidents or natural disasters. We will be closely monitoring any developments in this regard.
