Two flood warnings remain in the Southampton area on Friday morning, warning residents to ‘act now’ and that flooding is expected.
Residents and businesses along the River Itchen in Mansbridge and Woodmill have been told to close flood defense gates around high tide after nearly 34mm of rain fell in 48 hours – more than half the monthly average for Southampton.
The Environment Agency warns that parts of Riverside Park will be flooded, that water may be forced up through the floor of the White Swan pub, and the car park may be flooded.
Sluices at Woodmill are in operation.
The second flood warning covers the River Blackwater between Landford and Wade Bridge, including Ower, East Wellow and Plaitford.
River levels are expected to peak around midday on Friday.
Meanwhile, flood alerts, warning that flooding is possible, have been issued for the Lower Test, River Blackwater, Lower Itchen, groundwater flooding in Hursley and the River Dun.
In Ringwood, alerts have been issued for the Lower Avon and tributaries and the Middle Avon and tributaries.
