(ABC 6 News) – County Road 84 is closed south of Wabasha/Kellog due to a major grass fire.

Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office posted to Facebooksaying no one will be allowed in the area due to heavy fire and medical traffic.

All are advised to avoid the area and watch out for fire units coming in from other agencies throughout the county and western Wisconsin.

In an update, the sheriff’s office shared the evacuation was canceled for the area, per Wabasha Fire. The West Newston area is advised to evacuate immediately due to a large grass fire.

In one final update Around 6:45 pm, WCSO thanked the 21 outside agencies who worked to put out the fire.

The assisting agencies include Kellogg Fire Department, Kellogg First Responders, Wabasha Fire Department, Plainview Fire Department, Lake City Fire Department, Elgin Fire Department, Nelson, WI Fire Department, Alma, WI Fire Department, Goodview Fire Department, Minnesota City Fire Department, Rollingstone Fire Department, Altura Fire Department, Wabasha Ambulance, Lake City Ambulance, Wabasha Police Department, Minnesota DNR Forestry, Minnesota State Patrol, Winona County Dispatch and Buffalo County Dispatch.
