SEATTLE, Wash. — The No. 16 Arizona Wildacts (26-14, 14-5) put together a complete effort to win a tight 3-2 contest against the Washington Huskies (14-20-1, 6-13) on Friday night in Seattle.
Arizona pitching allowed just two runs, both coming on a home run, and struck out nine, the defense played error-free baseball, and the offense posted eight timely hits to take the series opener.
The Wildcats have now won 11 consecutive conference games, dating back to their 15-4 road win over Oregon on March 24.
starting pitcher Jackson Kent He worked around traffic for six innings, ultimately stranding seven runners while holding the Huskies scoreless over six innings of work. The left-hander struck out four while issuing zero walks and did not factor into the decision.
The Wildcats took the lead in the top of the seventh on a two-run home run from catcher Adonys Guzman, the sophomore’s first career collegiate home run. Washington tied the game with a two-run homer of their own at the bottom of the seventh.
Arizona quickly retook the lead in the eighth; second baseman Garen Caulfield opened the inning with a double and shortstop Mason White He drove him in four pitches later on a single to left center.
Right-handed embosser Kyler Heyne worked 1.2 shutdown innings and earned the win to improve to 2-0 on the year. Fellow righty Anthony Susac slammed the door shut in the ninth, retiring three straight batters including two strikeouts after a leadoff single to earn his first career save.
