WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (KUTV) — A 46-year-old man was arrested for murder Friday evening after authorities said he admitted to killing his father in a West Valley City residence.

Officers of the West Valley City Police Department said their investigation in Jeremy Pulver began at 11 am on April 26 when they received a call from an individual who reported witnessing the suspect killing his father.

The caller reportedly shared that Pulver told them he beat his father to death and then filled his mouth with baking soda to ensure he was dead.

The witness then stayed on the scene to wait for officers to arrive after Pulver fled.

Police said they located Pulver’s deceased father in the bedroom of his West Valley City home, with what appeared to be head trauma.

Officers located Pulver shortly after and took him into custody for questioning.

According to police, Pulver admitted that he had been planning to kill his father ever since his father shared with him that he “wanted to die due to his elderly condition.” Pulver added that his father wanted him to kill him and that he wanted to kill his father.

That day, Pulver had reportedly “worked up the confidence to kill (his father).”

Pulver then went to his father’s home and let himself into the bedroom where his father was asleep.

Police records stated that Pulver initially tried to suffocate his father but was unsuccessful. At that point, Pulver told officers that his father had begun fighting back and he began to fear for his own life.

Officers said that Pulver admitted to then retrieving his hatchet and using it to strike his father multiple times before filling his mouth with baking soda to ensure he was dead.

Authorities confirmed that the crime scene was consistent with all of Pulver’s statements and that he told investigators where he stashed the items he used to murder his father.

Pulver was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on first-degree felony murder.
