The cheapest place in Kent to fill up your car with petrol is at a Sainsbury’s garage. According to the latest data supplied by retailers, a driver in an average family car could save up to £15.40 by filling up at this forecourt, compared to the most expensive petrol station.

The Sainsbury’s garage at Bysing Wood Road in Swale is charging motorists 144.9p per litre, which means it would cost £79.70 to fill up an average 55 liter tank. This is based on a feed of live petrol prices which was set up by the government’s Competition and Markets Authority last September.

A government body has issued an alert to all motorists concerning the price of fuel. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) released new data showing ‘concerning’ information about prices at the pumps across the country.

Dan Turnbull, Senior Director of Markets at the CMA, said: “Drivers are feeling the pinch as fuel prices have been edging up since January. We’re particularly concerned by high margins which indicate weakened competition and are not a good sign for drivers. “

The average price for a liter of petrol across the Kent region this week is 150.8p.
