Arrest made in Chennai Malayali couple murder case; Recovered mobile phone key evidence – INDIA – GENERAL

CHENNAI: An accused has been arrested in the case of the murder and robbery of a Malayali couple in Muthapudupet. Nagesh, a native of Rajasthan was arrested. He is reportedly an employee of a hardware firm in Muthapudupet. Some indications suggest the involvement of additional suspects in the incident. The preliminary assessment is that the accused committed the murder as part of a robbery attempt.

Shivan Nair and his wife Prasannakumari, natives of Erumeli were murdered last night. Nagesh was taken into custody by the police based on information obtained from the mobile phone recovered at the scene. In recent days, several theft cases have been reported in Muthapudpet. Investigations are underway to ascertain if the same people are connected to those incidents.

One hundred sovereigns of gold have been reported missing from the couple’s house. Shivan Nair, an ex-serviceman, operated a clinic near his home in Gandhinagar, Muthapudupet. It is believed that the accused gained entry to the house under the guise of seeking medical assistance. Upon hearing noises from the house, neighbors alerted the police.

By the time police arrived at the scene, the murderer had already killed the couple and acquitted them with the gold. The bodies of the couple have been transferred to the hospital for post-mortem examination. Prasanna Kumari is a retired teacher from Kendriya Vidyalaya. The couple’s children reside abroad.
