‘Act now’ warning in place as flood alerts in force across Cambridgeshire

A flood warning is in force for an area of ​​Cambridgeshire on Monday (April 29). The Environment Agency warning, which means flooding is expected and that people should ‘act now’ is in place for the Parsons Drove area of ​​St Ives.

The warning area includes Harding Way, Nursery Gardens, Russet Close, Bramley Road, Elsworth Close, Rookery Close, Sheepfold, Great Fathing Close, Little Fathing Close, Fathing Lane, Brookway, Willow Way, Abbey Retail Park, Parson Green and Parsons Drove. River levels remain high in the area – although the latest Met Office weather forecast predicts no more rain is expected for several days.

The flood warning states: “The forecast is dry with no significant rainfall for the next 48 hours. This will allow river levels to start returning to normal soon. Take care on riverside roads and footpaths, and don’t put yourself in unnecessary danger. We are monitoring the situation and are not expecting it to escalate.”

A number of flood alerts, which mean flooding is possible and that people should be prepared, remain in force for other rivers and waterways in the county.

As of 10.15am on Monday morning, these include:

  • Bury Brook from Abbots Ripton to Ramsey
  • River Great Ouse from Brampton to Earith, including Back Brook, Hall Green Brook, Parsons Drove Drain, Swavesey Drain and Wadsbys Folly.
  • River Rhee from Guilden Morden to Haslingfield
  • River Cam from Stapleford to Waterbeach
  • River Cam from Newport to Whittlesford including the Slades
  • Bourn Brook from Caxton to Comberton
