The Junts candidate for the Catalan elections, former president Carles Puigdemont, has suspended his campaign agenda after announcing the death of his mother in Girona. “All my brothers were able to be by his side until the end, and he did not lack warmth or the excellent human and professional treatment of the staff of the Trueta hospitals and the Health Care Institute,” he stated in a message in the social network

Puigdemont regretted that his mother left “too soon” and stressed that, despite her absence, his daughter’s hand has also been his. “In some way I was also present,” added the former president of the Generalitat, who had remained in Brussels since 2017 until a few weeks ago when he moved his home near Perpignan.

Puigdemont will be replaced this Monday by the general secretary of the party, Jordi Turull, at the rally scheduled for the afternoon in Argelès-sur-Mer.

The Catalan electoral agenda has also been altered by the appearance announced by Pedro Sánchez this Monday, where he must reveal his future. Several Catalan parties have announced modifications to their actions, after the president’s reflection period has monopolized the start of the campaign.

The president and candidate of ERC, Pere Aragonès, had a press conference at the EFE agency at 10:30 that has been suspended. The socialist Salvador Illa, for his part, has changed the schedule of his interview at the ACN agency. The Comuns Sumar also had an event this afternoon with the candidate Jéssica Albiach and Minister Ernest Urtasun and in the end they changed it to an appearance at their headquarters.
