‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 Will Be About Death, Carrie Coon Says

First comes love, then comes. . . murder? Carrie Coon, who’s currently shooting The White Lotus in Thailand, is spilling the tea about what’s to come in season three.

During an interview with Vanity Fair, The Gilded Age actress pulled the curtain back on the series’s upcoming installment, including what it’s like to work with showrunner Mike White and how death is going to be a central theme.

“I have [White] had a season about money; he had a season about sex. And this is his season about death,” Coon told the magazine. “So here we are in this Buddhist country. “It bumps up against some things in my own life right now that are really interesting to think about, and so I’m feeling incredibly gratified.”

As previously reported, the Emmy-winning anthology will take place in Thailand after stints in Hawaii and Sicily; the show is also bringing back Natasha Rothwell, who previously played spa manager Belinda in season one. This time around, White explained in a clip that the show would put a satirical spin on Eastern religion and spirituality. Plus, he revealed to EW that the third season, which is slated to premiere in 2025, would be even “longer, bigger, and crazier” than before.

While production is currently underway, season three has an absolutely stacked lineup that includes Coon, Leslie Bibb (Palm Royale), Parker Posey, Michelle Monaghan, Jason Isaacs, and Patrick Schwarzenegger. Aimee Lou Wood, Christian Friedel, Morgana O’Reilly, Lek Patravadi, and Shalini Peiris are also part of the ensemble, alongside Sarah Catherine Hook, Sam Nivola, Nicholas Duvernay, Arnas Fedaravičius, Blackpink’s Lisa Manobal, Charlotte Le Bon, Julian Kostov, and Tayme Thapthimthong.

“It’s a huge cast. It’s an international cast. And I think he’s [White] playing with some really interesting dynamics,” Coon told Vanity Fair. “I think it’s something he would continue to do if they let him, because I think he would like to get bigger and more international and put together weirder groups of people—that’s what he’s passionate about. And I think that’s important in this world, to see people banging up against each other in this way. Of course, he’s satirizing rich white people, and he’s doing it very well.”

While The White Lotus season three remains shrouded in secrecy, Deadline reported in November that the installment would focus on a multi-generational group of travelers that includes a patriarch, a female corporate executive, an actress, and a couple of mothers, including a country club wife, a misfit, and a yogi. If you tuned into the other two seasons, you know that there’s a good chance they all won’t make it to the end.
