From Monday, the CISF personnel replaced the 150 personnel of the Delhi Police, including 54 women personnel, who were deployed for the security of Parliament complex following a security breach on December 13 last year.
The move was initiated on the request of the Lok Sabha Secretariat who asked the Security unit of the Delhi Police to withdraw its 150 personnel from the Parliament premises.
In an internal communication on April 26, Joint-Director (security ops) of Parliament asked the Delhi Police to withdraw their staff deployed at Parliament House Complex. It also said the CISF will take over as well as man the security points of Parliament from 8am from April 29 as per existing SOPs/security norms.
An official said around 75 personnel of Delhi Police are still working in Parliament and currently, they have asked all the 150 police personnel to report to the main security line in Bapudham for further deployment.
The move comes months after the Center asked the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to carry out a survey of Parliament premises for regular implementation on a comprehensive pattern in the wake of a security breach by a few people, who entered Parliament Hall and threw smoke canisters on December 13 last year.
After conducting a detailed survey, a preliminary probe by a committee headed by CRPF Director General Anish Dayal Singh found security lapses during frisking of visitors at the entry point. Eight security personnel of the Delhi Police were suspended for the breach.
The CISF then sent a contingent of 140 CISF personnel, headed by an Assistant Commandant-rank officer, for training on Parliament premises before the Budget Session and they, along with the Delhi Police, started frisking visitors and their baggage. Earlier, only Delhi Police personnel frisked visitors.
