Wilmer Martínez, worker for a company that provided services to PepsiCorequests compensation from the business group due to the injuries suffered as a result of the explosion of the factory located in Saint Anita, on January 29th. At that time, three people lost their lives and at least two were injured.
The operator stated that he was approximately two meters from the point where the explosion occurred. After the incident he was diagnosed with a femur fracture on his right leg.
As a consequence, he maintains, he cannot work due to his medical condition and was evicted from the place he rented to live with his family. “I’m in a little room. I feel frustrated with this situation. I want justice because today they don’t give me results,” he said in an interview with Channel N.
According to the same medium, the Public Ministry has not yet determined the people who will be reported, although there is an expert report from the Forensic Department of the National Police which would indicate that the cause of the accident would be a possible hydraulic pressure inside the tank. This would have caused the plates to break.
Snacks América Latina SRL, group company PepsiCoissued a statement expressing solidarity with the “difficult moments that the families and loved ones of those affected by the accident are going through.”
Then, they point out that, as a matter of normal employment, all workers from contracting companies who come to provide services to their plant must have a Complementary Risk Work Insurance (SCTR)

“Currently, we are having contact with those affected and their families directly, also through our insurer and, in addition, we continue to follow up through their employers. Such is the case of Wilmer Martínez Camizán, an Emi y Das Servicios Generales EIRL worker, with whom our insurer has already met and we received last Friday the documentation supporting the requested compensation. At the moment this information is already being evaluated,” the statement also reads.
Wilmer confirmed that the company he worked for had insurance. “He SCTR It is activated in any accident that happens. Those responsible are from the service, who are looking at my diagnosis,” she told Channel N.
However, the operator’s lawyer commented that they do not feel satisfied with what they have received from the insurance, such as payment for the medications. “They think that this is a way to compensate, but they do not realize that Martínez’s family is suffering because they were kicked out of the place where they lived, their children are not studying and they have many economic problems,” he says.
Along the same lines, he criticized the pronouncement of PepsiCosince, from their perspective “beyond the good will they could have with the family”, the investigations to find responsibilities, so far, have not advanced enough.
