In order to curb the impact on inflation, the Executive Branch will publish a Decree in the Official Gazette, through which the date on which the update corresponding to the Fuel Tax will take effect will be deferred.

In addition, the Ministry of Economy decided to postpone the increases in gas and electricity rates that should have been applied starting in May.

As of this Wednesday, the formula for monthly updating of gas and electricity rates that the Government designed so that the increases granted do not lag behind inflation was to come into force.

However, the regulatory entities of both services, Enargas and ENRE, respectively, did not publish the new tariff tables pending a definition from the Economy.

The regulatory entities have already calculated how much the increase would be that would correspond to the companies: 10.69% for electricity distributors, 12.5% for gas distributors and 12% for gas transporters.

Economy had to define whether it moved forward with a reduction in subsidies for the low (N2) and middle (N3) income sectors in gas and electricity; if it increased the cost paid by businesses, industries and high-income households, and if it authorized the monthly adjustment of rates for companies.

In the end, none of those will happen and everything will continue as it was or worse, since inflation and monthly devaluation remains at a rate of 7% and 2% monthly and increasingly low- and middle-income residential users demand more subsidies.

Regarding fuels, based on the standard that will be published in the Official Gazette, the Government decided to defer the update corresponding to the fourth quarter of 2023 of the Taxes on Fuels and Carbon Dioxide for unleaded gasoline, gasoline virgin and diesel, as of June 1, 2024.

Alfredo Camponovospokesperson for the Provincial Electric Energy Company (EPEC) in Córdoba, explained to Chain 3 the situation: “What was expected was that starting in May there was going to be an announcement of an increase in the seasonal price of energy. Now this news appears. We will wait to see if this is truly confirmed and if it is true that it is not there will be an increase in the cost of energy”.

Camponovo also mentioned that so far they have not received any official notification nor is there any new tariff schedule uploaded. “When this usually happens, first it is communicated through official channels and second the new tariff tables appear where the new costs are established,” he said.
