PALMER — One person was killed in a fire at a Wasilla duplex Wednesday morning, authorities say.

The fire was reported just before 6:30 am at the home near Lucus Road, according to Ken Barkley, director of emergency services for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Responders from the Central Mat-Su Fire Department could see flames coming out of windows as well as vehicles on fire, Barkley said.

Fire crews evacuated several people from the duplex, he said. Some residents were already outside.

West Lakes and Palmer fire departments also responded, Barkley said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No additional information was immediately available.

A Central Mat-Su fire investigator was at the duplex Wednesday afternoon, along with a few firefighters. The one-story structure on a quiet street was built in 2002, according to borough property records.
