Youth drowns in Tawi, family allegations murder

UDHAMPUR, May 5: Following death of a youth due to drowning in Tawi River under mysterious circumstances, family members of the deceased held a strong protest demonstration and blocked the Dhar road alleging murder.
According to Police, the deceased, identified as Akhil Kumar (20), son of Ram Lal, resident of village Sountha in Udhampur, had gone to collect sand from Tawi River where he drowned while taking bath along with two others.
The incident took place last evening in Dibber area, under the jurisdiction of Udhampur Police Station. The deceased was driver of a tractor while the two others were engaged as helpers for collecting sand.

Police said that the trio, while collecting the sand, was taking bath in Tawi river when Akhil Kumar suddenly slipped into deep water and drowned.
After an information in this regard was received at Police Station Udhampur, SHO Raghuvir Singh along with Police team rushed to the spot. Police and NDRF team launched a search operation but the body was recovered this morning.
However, family members of the deceased alleged that Akhil Kumar was murdered and they blocked the Dhar Road demanding fair investigation. The protest and road blockade continued for more than an hour until the family members dispersed following assurance by Police for a fair investigation.
A case under Section 174 CrPC has been registered in this connection at Udhampur Police Station for further investigation. The two youth who were accompanying the deceased, were also detained for questioning.
After postmortem, the dead body of the deceased was handed over to the family members for the last rites.
