Fire in Canutillo impacts several homes, one collapses

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Multiple agencies have responded to a large structure fire in Canutillo that impacted several homes on Sunday evening, May 5, an El Paso Fire spokesperson said.

The fire was along 6th Street and Park Avenue in Canutillo, and smoke was visible for thousands.

A witness told KTSM that three houses were impacted. Fire officials confirmed three or four houses were affected and one of those houses collapsed. No injuries have been confirmed.

The fire has been knocked down and crews continue to look for hot spots. Fire crews are also checking on neighboring houses to make sure they are OK too.

West Valley Fire initially responded to 6th Street and Park Avenue at about 6 pm Sunday about reports of a large fire.

West Valley Fire then called for assistance once the fire started to spread.

Dona Ana County and El Paso Fire departments also responded to battle the blaze.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating and will confirm damages.

The Red Cross will be helping any displaced residents.
