Jaipur: Six people, including five members of a family from Sikar district, died, and two children sustained critical injuries when the SUV in which they were traveling was hit by a truck on Delhi-Mumbai expressway in Sawai Madhopur district on Sunday morning.

The accident occurred in Bonli police station area, and the truck driver fled the scene with his vehicle after causing the accident, police said. The victims included two brothers and their wives. They were identified as Manish Sharma (38) and his wife Anita Sharma (36), his sister Santosh Sharma (55), Satish Sharma (36) and his wife Poonam Sharma (34), and the SUV driver, Kailash Chaudhary.

Manish Sharma’s seven-year-old daughter Deepali Sharma and 12-year-old son Manan Sharma were left critically injured. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, from where they were referred to a hospital in Jaipur, police said. The family was en route from Sikar to Sawai Madhopur to visit the Trinetra Ganesh temple.

‘Sharma had purchased new car just 5 days ago’

Sub-inspector Dharmpal Singh of Bonli police station said that the truck involved in the accident had been identified through CCTV footage and seized, but its driver remains at large.

According to the preliminary investigation, the accident occurred when a canter truck took a U-turn on the highway.
