LIMERICK will be aiming to extend their winning streak in this year’s Munster Senior Hurling Championship to three games when they face Cork this Saturday.

The All-Ireland champs currently sit at the top of the Munster round robin table after victories against Clare and most recently Tipperary.

The May 11 game in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh at 7pm will be a do-or-die fixture for the Rebels who have registered two disappointing defeats in Munster to date leaving them second from the bottom in the table and struggling to qualify for the next phase of the championship.

Limerick’s latest win against neighbors Tipp was overshadowed by the serious injury suffered by Na Piarsaigh forward Peter Casey, moments after he scored the side’s second goal of the match.

Since Sunday’s game, Limerick GAA have confirmed that Casey has suffered a broken ankle. Speaking after the 2-27 to 0-18 victory manager John Kiely said: “There is huge devastation for Peter. He has come back from a serious injury before and comes back very strong. “I have no doubt that Peter has the capacity to do that again.”

Despite the unfortunate injury, the Limerick side clocked up 2-12 in the final 35 minutes of the game, to score a resounding victory.

Touching on the incredible display after half-time, Kiely went on to say: “We have huge trust in the group and we felt like we had a lot more in us at the break and it was a case of going after that. We have huge regard for the opposition and we have to get it right. We had such a great response and that was well needed.

“The first 25 minutes of the game were quite tight and the breeze played a factor in the game with our wides, but our finishing, much like last weekend’s game, was great and I was delighted to see the work rate from all the lads. “
