TRICHY: Crew members of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) attached to Mofussil bus depot at Cantonment in Trichy city have returned 10 sovereign gold jewels and 149 grams of silver articles missed by a woman passenger on a Chennai-Trichy bus.

The crew members in the presence of senior officials on Monday night handed over the valuables found in the bus to the passenger after verifying their identity and ownership claims.

TNSTC officials said that S Madina, a resident of Samiyappa Nagar in Perambalur along with her two family members, had boarded a Trichy bound TNSTC bus at Madhavaram in Chennai on the night of May 4 (Saturday). While disembarking the bus at Perambalur bus stand in the early hours of Sunday, Madina accidentally missed her bag containing gold jewels and silver articles.

Subsequently, she approached the TNSTC management with the bus ticket. The passenger was told that the TNSTC bus (TN 45-N-4421) in which they traveled belongs to Mofussil depot in Cantonment in Trichy city.

Meanwhile, the crew members of the bus namely driver S Ramesh and driver R Gopal while their fleet at the time of completing their duty found a bag near a passenger seat checking containing 6 numbers of gold jewels and three silver articles (81 grams of gold and 149 grams of silver articles).

“It is our routine to check the fleet while completing our service at the depot. On noticing the valuables in a bag, we informed our branch manager,” driver S Ramesh said. After verifying the bus tickets in possession of Madina and their proofs to substantiate the ownership of jewels recovered, TNSTC officials on Monday night returned the valuables to the passenger at the Mofussil depot.
