The incident took place in a room on the first floor of a building located at 1600 Olavarría Street, where a large fire broke out. The street was closed to traffic to allow the work of emergency teams, including the City Firefighters and SAME.
According to witnesses, the fire started on the second floor when one of the tenants threw a Molotov cocktail into one of the rooms. This individual was taken to Argerich Hospital, where he was taken into police custody.
As a result of the accident, two women were seriously injured, with 50% of their bodies burned, and they were transferred to the Quemado hospital in critical condition; and two other women, one of them pregnant, suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to local medical centers. According to the information provided by the authorities, the affected building has a basement, ground floor and two floors, and houses several families.

The emergency operation mobilized 14 SAME units, as well as the City Police and Firefighters. Although the fire was controlled and the risk of the building collapsing was ruled out, security measures remain in place.
This tragic incident recalls another similar event that occurred four years ago in another tenement in La Boca. On that occasion, a young man set fire to his room after an argument with his mother, leaving about twenty families homeless.
The young man was arrested and faced charges of malicious damage with danger to the physical integrity of third parties, a crime that carries a sentence of three to fifteen years in prison.
