According to reports from neighbors, the communities of Guamachito, Campo Claro, El Espejo and Portugal are some of those that still do not have the service, so those affected are waiting for a statement from the authorities regarding when they will have power again.

“This is stressful, unbearable. We spent the whole night killing pests, because apparently they have not been able to solve the problem in the substation, and during the day we have had to deal with the unbearable heat that it is getting,” said José Magallanes, who lives in Guamachito.

He also indicated that both he and the rest of the neighbors are concerned about the possibility of the little food they have in their refrigerators being damaged.

Other sectors that apparently do not have electricity are Barrio Sucre, Barrio Industrial, Barrio Razetti, Los Cortijos, among others.

Explosion and fire

Around 9:20 pm yesterday, Monday, May 6, a strong electrical drop was recorded that was apparently felt in a large part of the northern area of the Anzoátegui state.

This fluctuation would have originated after the explosion at the Barcelona substation, where a fire subsequently broke out that was controlled by firefighters at around 10:00 pm.

However, after the outbreak, many sectors of both the capital city and Lechería were left without electricity. In some areas the service was restored between 1:00 am and 2:00 am this Tuesday, while others continue to add hours of waiting.

Alert

The flames in the substation caused surrounding sectors, such as Álvarez Bajares, to remain alert for more than half an hour, the time it took the firefighters to put out the fire.

Locals like Rosa Guaregua said that they were waiting for what would happen, although as she said, they did not lose their calm at any time.

“We remained attentive, but without fuss. Obviously the smoke affected us a little, but we saw that the situation was not as chaotic as five years ago, when a larger fire occurred,” he commented.

So far no authority has commented on the incident and the damage it left.
