Kabul, May 8 (EFE).- An explosion was recorded this Wednesday in the province of Badakhshan, in the northeast of Afghanistan, without details of the target or possible victims being known at the moment, official sources informed EFE.

“There was an explosion in the city (of Faizabad), but so far there is no information about victims,” the director of Information and Culture of the province of Badakhshan, Zabiullah Amiri, informed EFE, adding that the action took place around 12:00 local time (07:30 GMT).

The explosion is presumed to have been caused by a bomb attached to a vehicle of officers of the Taliban forces, according to a Taliban government source cited by the Tolo news channel.

At the moment, no insurgent or terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for this attack.

IS, which has become the main rival of the Taliban since the withdrawal of international troops, has claimed responsibility for almost all of the attacks committed since August 2021, when the Taliban assumed power.

Although the Taliban insist on denying that the armed organization represents a security challenge, the Islamic State of Khorasan, the Afghan branch of the terrorist group, has emerged as the main threat to the country’s stability.

At least 23 people died and another 60 were injured in a strong explosion that rocked the offices of a banking entity in the city of Kandahar on March 21, an attack that was later claimed by IS. EFE
