A Georgia officer assigned to do an area check of a park found a man and three children dead inside a car, in what police are calling a murder-suicide.

The gross discovery was made by the Gwinnett County Police officer around 1 a.m. Wednesday at Lucky Shoals Park in Tucker after he found a “suspicious vehicle” parked on the pedestrian trail, police said.

“The officer called out to the occupants but got no response,” the police statement read. “He approached the 4-door passenger car and found the bodies of four individuals inside.”

The driver appeared to be an adult male, and there were two girls and one boy found dead in the car as well. The police department does not know the children’s exact ages at this time, but the report states officers believe the children were elementary- to middle-school aged.

Gwinnett County Police Department’s crime scene investigations team was on the scene at Lucky Shoals Park in Tucker following what appears to be a murder-suicide.

WSB-TV reports the four people were shot to death.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and although it is tragic, our officers are going to step aside and do their job to the fullest and make sure they investigate this as if it were any other homicide and try to at least bring some conclusion to the families who may be involved,” Sgt. Michele Pihera told WSB-TV.

The names of the deceased are being held by the Gwinnett County Police Department until the next-of-kin are notified.

At this time, detectives are investigating the case as a possible murder-suicide. The Medical Examiner’s Officer will make a final determination on the situation and cause of deaths.
