More and more companies are entering the sound sector with the aim of getting a piece of the pie in a sector that continues to grow. Mainly companies whose main activity has been the field of mobile telephony until not long ago, who have taken advantage of the transition from headphones with a 3.5 jack connection to wireless ones to launch their own creations. Something that has led historical companies like Sony, one of the most internationally recognizable in the field of sound, to take another step to demonstrate why it is one of the leaders in the sector.

In fact, today it has some of the best wireless headphones on the market. And how can you innovate in an increasingly collapsed market? Trying to conquer the young public. And that is exactly what the Tokyo (Japan) based company has done, who has given the new generations everything they are looking for in their new range of ULT Power Sound products. A range of devices that enhance the bass of the songs, among which we find the ULT Tower 10 wireless speakers, ULT Field 7, ULT Field 1 and the ULT Wear wireless headphones that we talk to you about in this review.

Unboxing and design

The box in which the product comes is a true statement of intent about what we are about to try. After taking a quick look at it, Sony warns us that these wireless headphones from the ULT range will allow us to enjoy the bass like never before thanks to a button designed for the purpose that is responsible for enhancing this function. On the other hand, the company tells us that the new Sony ULT Wear also incorporate active noise cancellation which we will talk about later. Once the presentations are made, it’s time to open the box to see what’s inside.

After opening it we find a very compact and portable case in which the headphones in question are housed. It seems to us that it has optimal dimensions to take it anywhere, so we consider that it is a great success on the part of Sony in its objective that you can listen to quality music wherever you want. On the other hand, in the box we find the typical instruction book and a QR code that will allow us to know everything we need about the new Sony ULT Wear and even download the application that will help us enjoy an optimal experience. If we open the case we find the headphones and two cables. One of them a USB-C cable to charge the device and the other a 3.5 jack cable so we can connect our headphones wherever we want. The headphones have a sober black tone but a fairly modern design, thus demonstrating Sony’s intentions to approach the young audience. They are also very light and comfortable, so our first experience with the device is quite pleasant.

The keys to the Sony ULT Wear: enhance the bass

As we have explained to you previously, the Sony ULT Wear are aimed at young audiences. Hence, they have focused on two basic features for this age range, such as the noise cancellation that is so required in current times and the ULT button, through which the headphones maximize the bass of the songs. During the tests carried out we have tested music from different genres to see the effect of this button on some legendary songs such as Fool for Your Stockingsby ZZ Top, or other more current ones like Overthinking by Gilska u On My Level, by Wiz Khalifa. In all of them, the headphones behave ideally without saturating practically anything. Therefore, it becomes an ideal option for those who enjoy this characteristic rebound of the treble.

After these first tests, we recommend carrying out this first bass test with songs from genres such as hiphop, R&B or rap, as this is where we will notice the difference the most between having the ULT button activated. In case you want to improve your user experience even more, we recommend that you download the Sony | Headphones Connect, available for both Google Play and iOS. After pairing our headphones for the first time, the company will allow us to personalize our user experience and will even take us into the world of 360 sound so that we can live a completely different experience than what we are used to. This will require a test for which they will have to take a photo of both your left and right ear to personalize your experience. It may be a little complex due to all the customization options it offers, but all you have to do is take a few minutes to learn each and every one of its functions.

The keys to the Sony ULT Wear: noise cancellation and autonomy

Another of the great assets of these Sony ULT Wear is its active noise cancellation. If you are one of those people who loves to disconnect from the world while listening to your favorite songs, these headphones are a great option. During the tests carried out, these perform great in crowded environments thanks to the Dual Noise Sensor and the integrated V1 processor, a configuration with which we will cut out any type of sound from outside. What we liked is that these headphones have a physical button to deactivate this noise cancellation and activate ambient noise. A particularly useful button for those moments that require us to be more attentive to what is happening around us.

The third and last great asset of the Sony ULT Wear is its autonomy. From Sony they promise us that we can spend more than 30 hours listening to music on a single charge. And not only does it meet this main objective of 30 hours, but it is even close to 40. As usual, everything will depend on the options you have activated during your experience, such as active noise cancellation. In addition, we will only need about three hours to charge the device from 0% to 100%, so it won’t take too long to put the headphones in question back on.

Final assessment

We find the Sony ULT Wear to be very interesting headphones for their price range. Taking into account that we can currently buy it for a price that ranges between 160-175 euros (depending on the store we look at), they seem to us to be very complete headphones that become a candy for the young audience.

Mainly because of that bass enhancer, without a doubt the great asset of this device, and because of active noise cancellation that works like a charm. To all this we must add the autonomy of the headphones and their comfort, since we can spend hours and hours listening to music without registering any type of damage. What we liked the least was the app to enhance the headphones. And not because it is bad, far from it, but because it seems somewhat complex to the general public. However, the final assessment is that they are ideal headphones for young and not so young people who are fascinated by the effect of bass on their body.
