Argentina is hosting the First World Pizza and Empanada World Cup from today until June 6

Argentina is host from today of the First World Cup of Pizza and Empanada. This event, which is capturing the attention of lovers of gastronomy and promises to be a celebration of these traditional dishes and a platform to showcase the skill and creativity of the best pizza makers and bakers of the world.

The Pizza and Empanada World Cup began today and will be held Until 6 June in it Costa Salguero Complex of the City of Buenos Aires. This international meeting of pizza masters and bakers promises to be a milestone for this field of gastronomy.

The Costa Salguero Complex is the setting for this competition during the four days. There, visitors will be able to enjoy a festive and gastronomic atmosphere, with activities that will extend from the 9 in the morning until 8 at night.

The Association of Pizzerias and Empanada Houses of Argentina (APYCE) is the entity in charge of organizing this world cup together with the Union of Pastry Chefs of Buenos Aires. This event is part of the FITHEP Expoalimentaria Latinoamericana 2024, a fair that brings together food industry professionals from across the region.

The contest includes representatives from Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Sweden, Senegal, and more

The contest has the participation of pizza makers from different countries. Among the nations represented are Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Sweden, Panama, Venezuela, Senegal, Colombia, Chile, Uruguay, Ecuador, Cuba and Peru. This wide range of participants reflects the diversity and passion for pizza and empanada worldwide.

During the days of the event, pizza and empanada professionals will be cooking their creations in front of the public. The contestants will use the elements provided by the organization, including clay ovens and specialized utensils. There will be a total of four Neapolitan ovens (two wood-burning and two gas-fired), five traditional gas ovens and four electric ovens.

The jury is made up of 30 members, including renowned professionals both nationally and internationally. Among the Argentine representatives stand out Pietro Sorba, Diego Gaona, Gladys Mabel Olazar, Juan Solorza, Sergio Moro and Guillermo Kellmer. At the international level, there are names such as Massimo Raffaelli (Italy), Jesús Marquina (Spain), Peterson Secco (Brazil) and Angello Bertini (Peru)among others.

The title of World Pizza Champion will be announced on wednesday 5th June. The winner will receive a special prize: a trip to Parma, Italyto compete in the 32nd edition of the World Pizza Championship 2025.

For its part, on Thursday June 6th will be announced to World Empanada Champion.
