In this regard, the head of the Energy and Mining portfolio mentioned that it was “a historic day because a fracturing stage of the first Palermo Aike unconventional well has ended and a three-month stage of testing begins in which we are going to know the unconventional potential it has, at least from this first drilling that it has.”

Likewise, Álvarez explained the characteristics of the drilling of this well as it is unconventional: “First, it is in the southwest area of the province, the area of the reservoir’s potential is in that area, which has little hydrocarbon history, it is an average moon that covers precisely from Estancia Librum, from where the Cañadón Deus drilling was done, throughout the south-southwest area.”

On the one hand, he added, “it is a non-traditional hydrocarbon zone, such as the northern flank of Santa Cruz, and on the other, it is a stage of unconventional drilling, this means that 3,400 meters have been drilled vertically and 1,000 meters horizontally.”

He specified that “in recent days the fracture of this drilling has taken place and in the next three months they will gradually test this drilling from now on, to see what the unconventional potential it has.”

In turn, the provincial official highlighted that “later there will be other drillings located towards the south-southwest of the province, also of unconventional nature, similar to those being carried out in Vaca Muerta, in the province of Neuquén.”

In this sense, Álvarez was optimistic about the upcoming studies and considered that “Santa Cruz has enormous potential in unconventional oil and gas, which, as the governor has stated during the visit to the site of this drilling, is a return of page for the province.”

He highlighted that, with this, “enormous productive and economic potential and industrialization possibilities are opening up, fundamentally gas, through the production of aluminum, the production of electrical energy, the production of fertilizers, ammonium nitrate, hydrogen , liquefied natural gas, natural gas LPG and LNG, resulting in enormous potential in the future for the coming decades,” he stated.

Finally, the minister noted: “We hope it is historic and that it is reflected in the history of Santa Cruz, as a turning of the page and the beginning of a new productive stage for the province and all the inhabitants of Santa Cruz,” he concluded. .
