In the Malvinas Room of the Government House, the mayor of Ushuaia Walter Vuoto accompanied the signing of the collective protection led by the governor of the Province Gustavo Melella to stop the gas increases that seriously affect the population of Tierra del Fuego.

“I thank the Governor for taking the lead in the claim and invite him to continue fighting for our Province against the discretion of the national government in the distribution of resources for all Argentines,” said Vuoto.

The mayor highlighted the importance of the protection being collective and “that it is strong enough for Javier Milei’s government to reverse the high tariff. It is a strategic resource for Ushuaia that has to be defended by all governments, regardless of political differences.”

Along these lines, he maintained that as an Executive, as a Mayor and as a space, “we decided not to present an external protection, because we believe that it is better to be all together.” In this sense, he indicated that “we communicated with the Governor, he let us know what was coming and we believe that strategically the strength of a joint protection is even convenient.”

The president of Ushuaia analyzed that “it is not that there are no resources to subsidize the middle class, SMEs, Argentine businessmen, workers; But Javier Milei’s government is transferring all resources to the ruling classes of Argentina, which are 3% or 4% and have 70% of the wealth of this country.”

“In the text of the ‘base law’, we see that it lowers taxes on large businessmen and corporations in Argentina and puts all the weight on the rest of society,” he warned and highlighted the work of senators Cristina López and Eugenia Duré, deputies Andrea Freites, Carolina Yutrovic and deputy Jorge Araujo, present at the event via zoom.

“It is the first time that there is such a transfer from the popular sectors to the wealthy sectors,” so the economic resource is there, the issue is what is this man’s decision to subsidize and how to manage that resource,” he said clearly.

The mayor said that “the markets are not going to solve absolutely anything, as they have never done in Argentina, let’s not buy that speech please,” he expressed. “In Argentina it doesn’t work because that means adjusting the purchasing power of workers; and the prices set by the true price-markers of this country do not go down. Clearly this model already led us to the crisis of 2001.”

Finally, Vuoto gave full support to Governor Gustavo Melella for taking the lead in defending the interests of Fuegian men and women. “Count on us Governor, always to defend Tierra del Fuego as we said at the beginning of the year and it seems to me that the way is all together, with the workers, with the SMEs, with the legislators, deputies, senators, clubs, retirement centers with all those who build a society. And from Tierra del Fuego I say, Mr. Milei, stop your hand a little, stop destroying absolutely everything that is put in front of you.”
