Moscow, May 24 (EFECOM).- Russia and Belarus have closed agreements in the energy sector this Friday, in particular on the conditions of Russian oil and gas supplies to the neighboring republic.

They have been achieved in the meeting held this Friday in Minks by the presidents of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and of Belarus, Alexandr Lukashenko.

“Energy is, without a doubt, one of the main directions (of our cooperation). We also talked about it in detail during our meeting in a close format. There are certain agreements,” according to the Russian president.

Putin has expressed confidence that “all these agreements will be fulfilled.”

He added that “our country traditionally supplies oil and gas to Belarus on very favorable and preferential conditions.”

“All the parameters of gas supplies have already been agreed for the coming years,” he noted, emphasizing that between both countries “there are no pending issues.”

In addition, he recalled that, in November 2023, the construction of the Belarus nuclear power plant, a joint project, was completed.

Lukashenko has made it clear that the parties are working to reach a final agreement on “the conditions of oil and gas supplies to Belarus.”

“We have been debating this for several years, and today Vladimir Putin made the corresponding decision,” he added.

The Belarusian president has urged the governments of both countries to “implement as soon as possible” the agreements reached this Friday, above all, regarding the creation of “a unified industrial policy” of the State Union of Russia and Belarus.

“The situation has shown that, from the point of view of long-term cooperation, Russia and Belarus can only count on themselves,” he considered.

The Russian president has responded that the order to resolve the pending issues in the energy sector – which he described as “not very significant” – has already been given, and that, “without a doubt, the work of the corresponding companies in the branch of energy will be guaranteed.” energy and fuels.

For Putin, logistics and transportation are also an undoubted priority, which is why he has urged “reestablishing and creating new supply chains to guarantee the work of the sector.

“Between us and help each other to ensure the uninterrupted work of our companies, including those that are aimed at meeting the needs of the markets of our countries and the markets of other states that want to work with us, which are quite a few,” has underlined.

Last February, Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich said that both countries had created a regulatory framework in this sphere and determined the principles of operation of the unified electricity market, in addition to agreeing on Russian gas prices for a period of three years. which he described as “quite comfortable.”

For several years there was friction between Moscow and Minsk due to disputes over the prices of Russian oil and gas, which were settled after the rapprochement sealed in September 2021 with the signing of 28 integration programs between both countries.EFECOM
