In an interview with the newspaper The IndependentTim Burton admitted that he was excited to make this film, since he would try to return to his style of cinematography, with practical effects and his favorite actors. “I tried to go back to the basics.”

Originally, a sequel to the original film had been planned since its release in 1988, “Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian”, where you would see the characters take a vacation to Hawaii and the ghost would win a surfing competition. All this changed when in 2011 the script was devised by Seth Grahame-Smith, who collaborated with Burton on “Dark Shadows”. Later, it was confirmed that Burton would return for the film, along with the original cast, with a story supervised by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who collaborated with Burton on the Netflix series, “Merlina”. Grahame-Smith has been credited for the original story.

“Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” is released exclusively in theaters from 5 September 2024.
