More than 200 runners gathered this Saturday in the town of Nerpio to face a double athletics and trail test, corresponding to the XXIII Popular Racing Circuit and the VIII Trail Circuit organized by the Provincial Council of Albacete. The Kronos). The rain spoiled the day, as it appeared before many runners reached the finish line.
The X Nerpio Popular Race registered a total of 110 runners at the finish line. David Morcillo achieved his second victory of the season, after the previous victory in the town of Yeste. The runner from the Chinchilla Athletics Club, who also won this test last year, achieved just over two minutes ahead of the second place finisher, Gabriel Lerma Gómez. The third place on the podium went to Ángel Cuartero Castillo.
In the women’s category, Sandra Ruiz Picazo won, thus scoring her first victory in this edition of the Provincial Circuit and her third in Nerpio. The athlete from the San Blas Elche de la Sierra Athletics Club was accompanied on the podium by two runners from CAYT Valdeganga, Irene Requena and Ana María Mínguez.
Trail Race
The eighth edition of the Nerpio Trail Race was scored by Francisco Javier Román and Ada Salvador, two runners who thus debut their record of victories this season. And both did so with a solid advantage of more than six and five minutes, respectively.
Carlos Serrano and Mario González accompanied the Fondistas Yecla team runner on the podium. For its part, in the women’s classification there was a double for CA Kronos with second place for Alicia Heredia. Third position went to Carmen López. A total of 74 runners completed this test. The rain hurt many of them during the layout, as well as for the awards ceremony.
The final appetizer, quite generous, served to replenish strength for all the runners, who in many cases had to make an extra effort due to the conditions of the terrain due to the appearance of the aforementioned rain. Next appointment at Casas de Lázaro
On Sunday, June 9, the XXIII Provincial Circuit of Popular Races will arrive in the town of Casas de Lázaro to celebrate the eleventh edition of its Popular Race. The test will start at 10:00 a.m. from the Plaza de San José, with a distance of 8,800 meters. Registration for this test is open until next Thursday, June 6, at 2 p.m.
