The community of San Antonio Mihuacanlocated in the municipality of Corongo, in Pueblawas shocked after it was revealed that at least 8 people were injured after the explosion of a pyrotechnics workshop where special products are made for events with fireworks.
After noon, around 2:00 p.m., the district’s emergency telephone number received a call from neighbors who reported a strong explosion that even caused several houses around them to shake.
The events occurred in the area known as “La Curva”, at the height of the road that goes to the Zoquiapan area. The blow was so strong that several people nearby called 911 because doors and windows were damaged due to the explosion.
After the alert call, emergency elements arrived at the place where they found a large column of black smoke where there was a workshop that produces fireworks pieces that, apparently, did not have the regulations issued by the Secretariat of National Defense ( Sedena) for its preparation, distribution and use.
After the arrival of the experts, Residents of San Antonio Mihuacán asked that they search among the rubble for the people who were inside the placepresumably the owner of the workshop, his family and some of the employees who came to work that day.
State Civil Protectionhe Heroic Fire Department led by the State Police and paramedics from the Advanced Medical Emergencies System (SUMA) They arrived to care for the injured people who were transferred to the Burn Unit of the Traumatology and Orthopedics Hospital, in the capital of Puebla.
He Huejotzingo General Hospital and the Poblano Children’s Hospital, in San Andrés Cholula, also received patients who presented second and third degree burns in a large part of the body. According to doctors, six of them are in serious condition and two more were able to return home on their own.
The brigade members who went to the scene managed to control the fire and, together with the competent authorities, continue with the expert reports at the scene to determine the cause of the explosion, which was initially attributed to a ‘spark’. Given this, they highlighted in a statement that: “The fire is under control, while Civil Protection elements are working to safeguard the integrity of the neighbors.. The six injured people were treated and taken to hospitals to receive the corresponding medical attention, although the cause of the explosion cannot yet be determined.
