Every June 3, Argentina celebrates the Day of the Argentine Soldier in commemoration of the birth of General Manuel Belgrano in 1770. This date, established on May 11, 1994 by law No. 24,323, pays tribute not only to the creator of the national flag. but also to the volunteer soldiers who embody the values and patriotic commitment that Belgrano represented.
Manuel José Joaquín del Corazón de Jesús Belgrano, born on June 3, 1770 in Buenos Aires, was a central figure in Argentine history. Economist, journalist, soldier and fervent patriot, his legacy extends far beyond the creation of the flag. As one of the main promoters of the May Revolution, Belgrano actively participated in the wars of independence, leading crucial expeditions and commanding the Army of the North and the Jujuy exodus. His life and work are synonymous with the fight for freedom and the construction of a nation based on democratic principles.

On this day, in addition to celebrating the birth of Belgrano, tribute is paid to the Argentine soldiers who bravely defended sovereignty in the Malvinas Islands, captured by British forces in 1833. Special recognition is made to those who sacrificed their lives in combat and now they rest on Argentine soil in the Malvinas.

On the “Day of the Argentine Soldier”: salary increase for the Armed Forces and Police of Naval Establishments
The Official Gazette has officially published the increase in salaries for members of the Armed Forces (FFAA) and the Naval Establishments Police, who will begin to receive their new salaries as of June 1, 2024. The measure, signed by the ministers of Economy and Defense, reflects resolution 33/2024 that establishes the need to readjust salaries for these sectors. This adjustment is made in order to recognize the capacity, responsibility and dedication required by the correct execution of its activities.
The resolution, dated May 31, highlights that the expense derived from compliance with this provision will be met with the credits corresponding to the respective subjurisdictions of the General Budget of the National Public Administration of the Ministry of Defense. This increase seeks to adequately prioritize the members of the Armed Forces and the Naval Establishments Police.
