“Chelsea fans were angry” – Player who left Chelsea for direct rivals speaks out

One player who left Chelsea to join one of their direct London rivals has spoken out about making that decision and what happened when he first made that move just last summer.

It actually happens quite often, players leaving their clubs to join a close rival in the same league and even in the same vicinity.

A number of players have made the switch from Chelsea to Arsenal and then the other way around as well in recent seasons, with of course the highest profile move of that orc being Ashley Cole when he went from Arsenal to Chelsea.

I believe both of these moves were best for everyone involved at the time though. Havertz needed to leave and Chelsea got a great fee for him, and Jorginho seems happy at Arsenal and there was also a feeling that his time at Chelsea had come to an end regardless.

Havertz has had a good season at Arsenal after a very slow start finding his feet at the club. But since then he has seemingly become a pretty important striker for Mikel Arteta’s side and has enjoyed a very good second half of the season.

As cited by Fabrizio Romano today, Havertz said: “The change from Chelsea to Arsenal was worth it.

“Chelsea fans were angry that I left, the Arsenal fans weren’t so enthusiastic either, because it didn’t go so well at start..

“Then there is strength when the coach, teammates and the people in your close environment stand by you and support you.”

Personally, I don’t think the majority of the Chelsea fans I saw were that angry, I think they were just pleased to get a good fee for a player they weren’t too fussed if he left or not. But maybe that’s just my view of it?
