MEXICO CITY (apro).- Despite the resounding electoral defeat suffered by the coalition they put together through summit agreements, the national presidents of the PAN, Marko Cortés Mendoza, and the PRI, Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, will remain in the high spheres of the political world , since they will occupy positions as senators through the multi-member route, with salaries of about 120 thousand pesos and immunity.
Prior to the campaigns, the leaders of the PAN-PRI-PRD alliance had shielded their personal future, attributing themselves the first places on the multi-member senatorial lists of their parties, which seemed a guarantee of maintaining their control in their respective parties, without import the election results.
This strategy did not work for Jesús Zambrano Cortés, the national leader of the PRD, a group that received less than 2% of the vote, so it will not have a single senator in the next legislature.
The national leaders of the PAN and the PRI have received a shower of criticism, after suffering a defeat at the polls, where the opposition candidate Xóchitl Gálvez Ruiz did not gather even 30% of the votes – half of the elected president, Claudia Sheinbaum. Pardo–, and in which Morena took the government of Yucatán from the opposition.
Today, on Ciro Gómez Leyva’s morning newscast, PAN lawyer Roberto Gil Zuarth recognized the magnitude of the collapse and called for the resignation of Cortés and Moreno.
Since the 2021 elections, deep fissures have occurred in the opposition bloc parties, marked by the departure of PAN and PRI cadres, with both complaints to the national leaders of the parties.
Morena and its PVEM ally absorbed dissident elements, including five governors – to whom President Andrés Manuel López Obrador gave embassies after Morena won the governments in their states – and figures from Enrique Peña Nieto’s government.
In addition to saving the best places on the multi-member lists, Cortés and Moreno placed the members of their respective circles to form their benches in the chambers: next to the national leader of the PRI will be Carolina Viggiano Austria, the wife of Rubén Moreira Valdés, as well like his unconditional Pablo Guillermo Angulo Briceño.
On behalf of the PAN, the representative for Guanajuato Karen González Márquez will participate, as well as the former presidential candidate Ricardo Anaya Cortés – who integrated Marko Cortés into his group within the PAN -, or the former PAN senator Lilly Téllez García.
