The N-230 highway was the scene of another fatal traffic accident this Tuesday, the second in less than 24 hours on this road that connects Lérida with the Arán valley passing through the province of Huesca. On Monday, a 71-year-old man died when the car he was driving left the road and overturned, in the municipality of Baélls, and today another, 46-year-old, lost his life, a few kilometers away, in Benabarre. Both victims were residents of the province of Lérida.
The last accident occurred shortly before half past nine in the morning at kilometer point 54,907 of the N-230 highway (Lérida-Viella), descending direction, and also consisted of a road exit on the right shoulder and a car overturning.
The deceased is a resident of the Arán valley (Lérida). The body has been transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Huesca and at the scene two motorcycle patrols have appeared from the Binéfar Civil Guard Traffic Detachment and another from the Barbastro Detachment, as well as the Accident Investigation Team (EIS) of the Civil Traffic Guard based in Fraga, a team of firefighters and health services 061.

The insecurity on this road mobilized the mayors of Huesca and Lérida a few years ago, They even called rallies to protest the number of victims. The Ministry of Transport is planning to convert the route into a 2+1 road, with three lanes, one for each direction of traffic and another central one that is reserved for overtaking and which alternates.
At the beginning of the year, the General Directorate of Highways awarded the drafting of the section between the Alfarrás (Lérida) bypass and Benabarre to the joint venture formed by the companies TPF Getinsa Euroestudios SL and Piñol Sanjaume SL, with an offer of 1.5 million euros. The contract has an execution period of 24 months, so it should be ready in the spring of 2026.
