Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated at a press conference that the true status quo of the Taiwan Strait is that both sides of that maritime passage belong to a single China.

In an exclusive interview with Time magazine, US President Biden said that Washington has signed agreements with China in the past and that US policy is not to seek Taiwan independence.

But in fact, if China tries to unilaterally change the status quo, the United States will not stop protecting Taiwan, Biden warned, and did not rule out the possibility of the northern country using force to protect Taiwan.

In response, Mao Ning reaffirmed that that territory and its surrounding maritime spaces are an inalienable part of China’s territory, and it is the business of the Chinese people how to resolve the Taiwan issue.

China urges the United States to honor its commitment not to support Taiwan independence and to stop arming the island. Stop sending wrong signals in any way to the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces, the spokesperson urged.
