A firefighter was trapped on the roof of a burning building in Boston on Wednesday afternoon.

Boston firefighters said they responded to a reported fire at a two-and-a-half-story building in the 200 block of Normandy Street around 2:45 p.m. and found fire and heavy smoke. Additional resources were requested and the fire broke through the roof.

The fire department shared video from the scene, which showed heavy flames and smoke billowing from the roof.

At one point, firefighters said a rescue was called for a firefighter who was temporarily trapped on the roof by intense flames. The firefighter was finally able to get out safely via a ladder of a fire truck.

Three firefighters were taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and extreme heat.

A person was in the house at the time of the fire, it was a woman who lives in the property that was full of accumulated objects and she left on her own.

The fire chief said the house was full of objects, which caused the fire to quickly spread to the two upper floors.

Witnesses shared videos of the moment of the fire and claim that they were afraid that the fire would spread to other homes.

Authorities are investigating the causes of the fire.
