500 runners gathered for this meeting at the European Green Capital 2024 with a plantable bib and the challenge of recovering plastic from Valencian beaches.
Valencia Ciudad del Running has once again celebrated Global Running Day, a global celebration of the passion for running, together with clubs and runners in the city.
Like every year, on the first Wednesday in June around half a thousand running lovers gathered for this non-competitive meeting in the Jardín del Turia.
It is the ideal space to host this day, which this year also coincides with World Environment Day, precisely the year in which Valencia boasts its designation as European Green Capital during 2024.
For this reason, before starting this non-competitive filming of about 5 kilometers towards the City of Arts and Sciences, the participants collected their plantable number in the start and finish area located next to the Exhibition Bridge.
It is a bib that, at the end of the day and following the instructions, you can turn into a plant, since it is made of a special paper that contains seeds that germinate with a little water and soil.

One kilo of plastic recovered for each runner
Furthermore, Valencia Ciudad del Running, a project promoted by the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation and the Valencia City Council, wanted to take another step in this celebration by dedicating the Global Running Day to caring for the environment, therefore, for every number that has been collected in the start/finish area to participate in the meet-up, 1 kg of plastic will subsequently be recovered from the Valencian beaches, thanks to the agreement reached by Valencia Ciudad del Running, which will certify this collection of plastic waste.
