Asunción, June 5 (EFE).- Libertad became three-time champion in Paraguay this Wednesday, after defeating Olimpia 3-1, in a match for the 22nd and final date of the local league, played at the Defensores del Chaco stadium.
Rubén Darío Lezcano, with a left-footed shot (m.11); the experienced Óscar Cardozo, in a masterful collection of a still ball (m.69), and Antonio Bareiro (m.94), who took advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Juan Ángel Espínola to kick towards an unprotected goal, gave the victory to a team Gumarelo who left his escort, Cerro Porteño, on the road.
The score for Olimpia was achieved by Richard Ortiz after connecting, in the 75th minute, with his head a cross sent from the side.
In this way, Libertad reached its 25th star and became three-time champion of Paraguayan soccer, after winning the Apertura and Clausura titles, respectively, last year.
El Repollero finished at the top of the classification with 48 points, three above the second in the table, Cerro Porteño.
The champion knew how to contain the pressure exerted by the club of Argentine coach Martín Palermo, who managed to score in the 23rd minute through Derlis González, but the goal was disallowed due to offside.
Franjeado finished in third place in the table, with 36 units.
Olimpia managed to recover from a rocky start to the championship, which led to the dismissal of Paraguayan coach Francisco ‘Chiqui’ Arce and led to the arrival of Palermo, who took the reins of a team then in seventh place in the table.
In the other match of the day, Cerro Porteño, led by Spanish coach Manolo Jiménez, had to settle for second place in the classification.
