The victim was the sister of Alberto Mendez who was piloting a Renault Clío of Class N2, from the city of General Roca and was navigated by Ariel Zanzana and who was waiting to start that test when the fatal outcome occurred due to the capsize carried out by Alberto Barasich and navigated by Marcelo Paolorossi aboard a Renault Sandero of the A7 class.

The car went out of control on a long straight line and began to lurch to the side of the public, crushing the woman. In addition, two minors were injured, one of them was rushed to the emergency room seriously, but he was already out of danger and is the woman’s son.

From the General Roca Drivers Association through its president “Goyo” Martínez, it was indicated that “today is a day of great pain for regional motorsports, this tragedy mourns us all.” The investigations are being carried out by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the city of General Roca.

Despairing moments after the accident in the Rally

Since the accident was in the Cervantes fence area and there is no cell phone signal there, several minutes passed until the ambulance arrived at the scene and transported the injured to be treated at different health centers.

At the scene of the incident, the police began working with their experts to determine the causes of an accident that generated shock in the region. It was said that the car would have made between six and seven turns while overturning and on that journey it hit the affected family.

In the minutes before the special test started, safety vehicles circulated through the accident area to ensure that everything was in good condition.

Security controls

The location of the public in the areas adjacent to the roads is part of the ritual for rally followers and both families and groups of friends look for their place to watch the cars pass by from the best possible view.

For this reason, in the run-up to each race, the organization travels the paths with the aim of avoiding these dangers. The AVGR chaired by Jorge Martínez, in charge of the race, immediately decided to suspend the competition.

As for strictly sporting matters, the fatal accident occurred when the first special test of the Huergo rally had just begun, on the Cervantes-Cervantes section, which has an extension of 14.6 kilometers.

The race was part of the second date on the calendar in the regional rally, which brings together dozens of participants from North Patagonia and thousands of fans in each of its chapters.
