The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) requested evacuate the sector of the Pichilo river, in the commune of Arauco, due to the overflow caused by the rains in the area.
The event occurred on Wednesday afternoon, within the framework of the extratropical cyclone that affects the south-central area of the country.

The mayor of Arauco, Elizabeth Maricancommented that “until this minute We have evacuated six people from Los Guzmanes, “22 remained there for fear of robberies or some situations and the rest would eventually be evaluating the evacuation of more than 800 people from the Pichilo, Las Corrientes and Las Fajas sectors.”
The available shelter, the mayor detailed, is “the Pichilo school, with a capacity for 80 people, and now we are going to another sector of the commune, Ramadilla, and we would eventually be evaluating setting up another shelter.”
“The red alert was declared preventively in the event of the possible overflow of the Pichilo River in that same sector.. As a result of this, the preventive evacuation of the families that are in the sector was carried out and this evacuation was reinforced with SAE messaging,” reported the deputy director of Senapred, Alicia Cebrián.
He specified that “this will continue until the river levels drop, given that it continues to precipitate, it is maintained preventively, a shelter was set up and we will continue monitoring so that we can inform the people who live in the place.” that they can return to their homes without any risk.
According to the latest report from the authorities, more than half of what was forecast has already fallen.
In this frame, 12 communes in the region suspended classes preventively for this Thursday.
