The New York Police Department processes the revocation of the weapons license of the former US president donald trumpafter being found guilty of corruption in a New York court.
CNN and The New York Times, citing sources familiar with the case, say that the Police plan to complete an investigation that will lead to the revocation of Trump’s current permit to use a firearm.
The former president had a concealed carry permit in NYthat is, in practice you could carry a firearm in public but not visibly.
He also possessed three pistols registered under that permit, sources told both media. Two of them were delivered to the Police Department Licensing Division when Trump was already charged in April 2023 with 34 counts of falsifying business records.
The third gun had already been legally transferred to Floridawhere the former president has a residence and it is not clear if he is still in possession of it, the Times quotes.
Under federal law and state law in New York and Florida, people with felony convictions are prohibited from possessing a firearm.
When the Police complete the investigation and in the event that the permit is revoked, Trump would have the right to file a challenge to the measure.
Trump was found guilty last week of 34 crimes in a criminal trial held in New York, which is based on a trail of checks, invoices for incorrect concepts and refunds to buy the silence of Stormy Daniels for a sexual relationship in an establishment Lake Tahoe.
The jury found it proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump knowingly and willfully falsified reimbursements to his then-loyal collaborator and legal advisor Michael Cohen in the amount of $420,000 with the intention of concealing the payment to Daniels before the 2016 elections, in exchange for keeping their secrets.
