JUNE 7 holiday in Peru: What is celebrated, who rests and more about the date | ANSWERS

During the month of June there are various holidays that will allow the majority of citizens to spend free days, either with family or friends doing some activity that helps them get out of their routine. In this way, some Peruvians in the public and private sectors have been questioning whether this June 7th It is considered a day of rest or they will have to go to work.

According to the law, it determines that this Friday, June 7, which is celebrated on Flag Day and Battle of Arica, is a holiday for all public and private institutions in the nation, being considered a non-working and paid holiday. In this way, all organizations in the country will be able to enjoy a break that will be paid or in any case they can have a double salary or the payment of the aforementioned holiday on a working date. Likewise, the next break will be on June 29 since the Day of Saints Peter and Saint Paul is celebrated.

At the beginning of the year, the Executive published Supreme Decree No. 011-2024-PCM through the newspaper El Peruano, which declares compensable non-working days for public sector workers during the current year. However, the hours that were stopped working will have to be compensated in the next 10 days or in any case determined by the immediate boss.

Meanwhile, those in the private sector can choose to make this provision, but on the condition that there is an agreement between the employer and its employees. In this way, both have to agree on the date on which the hours that were not worked will be returned, but if there is no agreement, the final decision will be made by the employer. Therefore, here we present the list of non-working days for 2024:

  • Friday, July 26, 2024
  • Monday, October 7, 2024
  • Friday December 6, 2024
  • Monday December 23, 2024
  • Tuesday December 24, 2024
  • Monday December 30, 2024
  • Tuesday December 31, 2024.

Here, we present the reasons why it was determined that each new holiday be incorporated into the Peruvian calendar established in article 6 of Legislative Decree No. 713:

  • Peruvian Air Force Day (July 23th): During the early hours of Friday, June 23, 2023, the Congress of the Republic approved the law that declares this date to honor Captain FAP José Abelardo Quiñones.
  • Battle of Arica and Flag Day (June 7): Law approved by insistence to establish that this date be declared a national holiday, and published on June 15 in commemoration of both patriotic anniversaries.
  • Battle of Junín (6th August): On July 7, 2022, Congress approved declare August 6 a national holiday in honor of this important event that allowed the subsequent independence of Peru to be consolidated.
  • Battle of Ayacucho (December 9): Anniversaries approved on December 9, 2021 by the plenary session of the Congress of the Republic to remember this significant national event.

It is important to mention that the incorporation of these holidays has the purpose of balancing the work and rest time of Peruvians, as well as encouraging cultural, patriotic and leisure activities among citizens.
