More than 300 Zamorano students “escape” from climate change in this fun Iberdrola escape room

Iberdrola, the Rei Afonso Henriques Foundation (Frah) and the Government of Castilla y León have successfully closed the environmental education program ‘Sin tiempo’, which has involved 10 educational centers in the province of Zamora and more than 300 Education students Secondary, with which they have “fled” from climate change. This initiative, developed during the school year, has aimed to warn about the importance of the fight against climate change, considered “the greatest challenge we face” as a society.

Through various activities and challenges, students have learned about the importance of taking care of the planet and have understood that climate change is not a game. The program’s activities have tested their awareness and commitment, allowing them to assume that they are a vital part of the change towards a sustainable future.

The educational centers that have participated in the program are: Santísima Trinidad de Pinilla, IES Fuentesaúco, IES Aliste, IES Rio Duero, IES Alfonso IX, IES Tierra de Campos, IES Arribes de Sayago, IES Poeta Claudio, IES Los Salados and CC San Vincent de Paul. The IES Arribes de Sayago and the IES Poeta Claudio have obtained first and second place with the best scores throughout the course, becoming champion and runner-up of the program.

“This innovative, motivating proposal with environmental content that we have carried out in our facilities, in a natural environment, with the aim of involving youth in action in favor of the environment and the fight against climate change has been quite a success,” declared José Luis González Prada, director of the Rei Afonso Henriques Foundation.

For his part, Iberdrola delegate in Castilla y León, Miguel Calvo, highlighted that “we have time to promote the transition towards a sustainable model, understanding the role that energy and mobility play in the climate challenge.” And he has assured that the electric company is firmly committed “to a decarbonized and sustainable energy model, moving towards a future of zero emissions.”

Furthermore, Miguel Calvo recalled the Zamoran origins of Iberdrola to connect with the fact that the energy company was a pioneer in the use of water, wind and sun in the sustainable production of energy. “We are leaders and we want to lead from Zamora towards an energy transition,” he assured.

He has also taken advantage of the situation to remember that caring for the environment “is everyone’s business”, so new generations have to be involved in it. For this reason, Miguel Calvo believes that educational systems should include topics on ecological transition and climate change in their core subjects.

The territorial delegate of the Government of Castilla y León in Zamora, Leticia García, has highlighted the importance of these programs to promote responsible behavior towards the environment, with programs that promote “awareness, awareness, training and action in relationship with the environment, as a strategy for the conservation and management of natural resources”.

Leticia García advocates the promotion of “responsible habits and attitudes” towards the environment, through “proactive behaviors both towards mitigation and adaptation to climate change and for the sustainable and efficient operation of the province’s schools.”
