What can we expect from the Nintendo Direct in June 2024?

Almost seven months have passed since the last Nintendo Direct dedicated to games developed by the big “N”. While this has happened on other occasions, the reality is that 2024 has been such a dry year for the industry that this is even more notable. Speculation of the existence of a new Nintendo Direct is not debated, since we have official confirmation from Nintendo, but the date and content are a mystery for now. As usual, at Índigo GEEK we will give ourselves the task of speculating all the details about the next presentation and this is what we expect.

Nintendo Direct date and time

Surely, the first thing everyone will want to know is the date to mark it on their calendars. We think that the following dates are the most feasible options: June 11 or 18. We can determine this date by different factors such as the fact that Nintendo likes to make its presentations on Tuesday at 6:00 am Pacific Time. On the other hand, most of his presentations usually fall around the middle of the month, so both dates are possible.

On the other hand, something that has always characterized Nintendo is the fact that its presentations always come out after those of other developers. Sony already had its PlayStation Showcase and, on the other hand, the Xbox Showcase It will take place on Sunday, June 9. With these two presentations already behind us, all eyes will be on Nintendo to see what surprises they will bring.

What can we expect from the Nintendo Direct

When the Nintendo Direct was confirmed, this is what the president of Nintendo said:

“Writes Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make the announcement of the successor to the Nintendo Switch during this fiscal year. It will have been 9 years since the Nintendo Switch was announced. “We will have a Nintendo Direct focused on releases in the second half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the new console during this presentation.”

In an effective way, Furukawa has told us things that are very useful to see what kind of Nintendo Direct it will be. During the end of a console’s cycle, Nintendo usually reduces its pace of releases and this year has been characterized by that. So far this year, Nintendo has released two new titles with Princess Peach Showtime! and Endless Ocean: Luminous. The rest of the year has been pure remakes and even the only game we know for the remainder of 2024 is Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, a remaster.

Following this logic, definitely We can’t wait for the next big Nintendo title, since most of those games will surely arrive on the new console in due course. Our bet is on seeing more remakes or remasters reach the Nintendo Switch. There are two titles that we hope to see with great certainty and those are ports of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. These titles are highly in demand by the community, they would not require a great effort to sell and with this you would have all The Legend of Zelda 3D games in one place. These are the safest, but there may be more. Our dream would be to see one of the following receive a remake treatment if they continue down that path:

  • Kid Icarus Uprising
  • F-Zero GX
  • Wario Land: Shake It!
  • Super Mario 3D Land

Outside of these titles, the reality is that it would be difficult to see larger games. One possibility could be a new 2D Zelda, a new Kirby game, or a new Mario Party. These titles would please fans and require a smaller budget so they could arrive unexpectedly. The new game that most seems to be possible is a 2D Zelda, since Nintendo is developing a title under the secret name “Edward” and the last game we saw with a similar name was the remake of Links Awakening (Richard). Both titles have a name related to the English crown.

The big titles?

As we already mentioned, there could be some additional surprise related to Nintendo’s next big title, but its announcement would be for a future date. This is because we have a long time since the last 3D Super Mario Bros game and Metroid Prime 4 has already been in development for five years so something should be ready. The challenge with these titles is that they would surely be a day one release for the new console.

We have already seen this with The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild. Both titles were one of the last for the current console and one of the first for the new one. If one of these titles were announced, Nintendo would not ruin the surprise of its double launch, but the reality is that we hope that only one of these games will be announced as the closing of the Nintendo Direct.

Definitely, what you should not expect are the following titles:

  • Mario Kart 9
  • Splatoon 4
  • New Super Smash Bros.
  • New Fire Emblem
  • New Xenoblade Chronicles
  • Hollow Knight Silksong

This is what we hope to see in the June Nintendo Direct. Do you agree with us?
