The National Energy Secretariat published the new tariff schedule that comes into effect in June and establishes strong increases due to the removal of subsidies in electricity and gas bills.

The former spokesperson for the Public Services Regulatory Entity (Ersep) Walter Scavino gave details about how the increase will impact the different levels of users.

The former official explained that “for Level 1 the increase is smaller because they were already paying the flat rate, it is around 10 percent on average.”

In the case of NLevel 2, which are the ones with the lowest income, are the ones who are going to have the largest increase because the subsidy was very large there.. It can be around 60 percent. And 30 or so percent, almost 40 for Level 3 of medium income,” he told Miter Córdoba.

Changes

“There is an important modification in the subsidy coverage. Yesterday two resolutions were issued by the Ministry of Energy, 90 and 91, one for energy and the other for gas,” said Scavino.

lPeople with lower incomes, NLevel 2 had subsidy coverage for all the consumption they made, almost 80 percent of the real value of energy. Now that is reduced to 350 kW”, he detailed.

“Due to the stage we are in and there are many families that do not have gas service and everything runs on electricity, it is very easy to achieve that consumption in winter with the cold weather,” analyzed the former Ersep official.

“The surplus will be paid without subsidies. Every 1,000 pesos they paid had an 80 percent subsidy. Now you will pay 1,000 for what you consume more, not 200,” he exemplified.

“In the case of middle incomes who had a subsidy of up to 400 kW of consumption, who from 400 kW of consumption already paid the flat rate, that is reduced to 250 kW of consumption. “That is also much easier to overcome in the winter season,” he continued in his analysis.

Gas

“The gas at the wellhead represents 70 percent of the gas bill. That subsidy was also 80 percent and is now reduced to 64 percent. Whatever exceeds the consumption limit, the subsidy is reduced to 24 percent,” he indicated.

Procedure

Scavino urged all people who never completed the registration process “to obtain the subsidy and are obtaining it,” have to “do the process again” within a period of 60 calendar days starting June 1.
