47 scientific projects have just been awarded the 2023 Awards of the Vietnamese Fund to Support Technological Creation (VIFOTEC). Two units of Petrovietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS), namely PV GAS South East Transmission Company (PV GAS SE) and PV GAS Ca Mau Company (PV GAS CA MAU), took the honor of this category.

At the event, PV GAS SE was on the list of winners of the VIFOTEC Stimulus Awards, with the project “Solution for the quality control of gas and condensate in Thien Ung, and the management of the two-phase gas pipeline system in Nam With Son 2”, aimed at protecting the environment and optimal use of resources. Authors and collaborators of this project included Nguyen Thanh Minh, Tran Huy Thuc, Nguyen Phuong Cao, Nguyen Vy, Ho Xuan Lam, Bui Tan Hung, and Tran Anh Khoa.

The project had wide applicability within the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), as well as in the long-term operation of PV GAS multi-phase gas pipelines, helping to save more than 21 billion VND, excluding the one that was produced during the shutdown of the Dinh Co Gas Processing Plant due to lack of an adequate liquid control plan, as well as the benefits of proactive mobilization of maximum gas sources from TU-DH and SV-DN, contributing not only to increase revenues and profits, but also to resolve urgent issues relating to national energy demand during peak drought seasons, and especially in key economic zones in southern Vietnam.

Furthermore, the reduction of flares due to off-spec gas processing was also a point worth mentioning when considering the project, as it helped conserve national resources significantly, especially in the context of declining domestic sources and environmental pollution.

PV GAS CA MAU received the VIFOTEC Stimulus Award for the project “Energy consumption optimization solution of the Ca Mau Gas Processing Plant (GPP Ca Mau)”, whose authors were Nguyen Quoc Thang, Nguyen Thanh Thinh, Nguyen Thanh Tan, Pham Van Hiep, Ho Nguyen, Huynh Van Luan, Nguyen Hai Phuong and Tran Thanh Minh.Proposed three solutionsImproving the use of adsorbents to reduce fuel gas and electricity consumption at the Ca Mau treatment plant; modify the operating mode of the waste gas compressor (RGC) to save electricity; and rehabilitate the X-4314 nitrogen production system.

The project had wide applicability within the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), as well as in the long-term operation of PV GAS multi-phase gas pipelines.

The trio had applied themselves in long-term production, bringing a total economic value of more than VND8 billion.

These solutions also contributed to saving national electrical resources, as well as reducing the consumption of electricity generated from fossil fuels, and thus emissions with nearly 4,000 tons of CO2.

Along with the 2 PV GAS projects, the oil and gas industry had another 5 scientific and technological projects awarded with the VIFOTEC 2023 Awards. In total, there were 3 Third Prizes and 4 Stimulus Awards.
