What was experienced during the first day of the Canadian Grand Prix went beyond convention, with multiple changes in weather that made it impossible for the teams to gather all the information they needed, but with a halo of hope in the Aston Martin team due to the behavior of the AMR24 in those types of conditions, specifically Fernando Alonso’s, which felt better than Lance Stroll’s.
Team objective, get points
Despite that first position, the Aston Martin boss has made it clear from the first moment what the team’s primary objective, to achieve points, something that Fernando Alonso has not achieved in the last two Grands Prixbut with the new implementation in the rear wing, he hopes to be back in the middle of the grid.
But that’s not all, from the new Imola implementations, The AMR24 has been more nervous than ever, and Mike Krack admits that, despite having improved in that aspect, the car is still difficult to drive, something not very good on a weekend where changing conditions force you to have a very stable car.
“The car is difficult to drive. We need to unlock potential that gives more confidence to the pilots. If you lose confidence you can’t go to the maximum and you have to leave more margin, you start further back in the races and everything is more difficult,” said the Aston Martin boss.
“We seem to be in a better place in terms of how we do things, how we discuss them, how we make changes. And I think this is what it feels like compared to last year. And yes, I think this is something to build on in the future and the results will come”he concluded.
“We clearly see with both cars that the performance is there, We have to take the focus off of the drivers who need to have something better and for now we cannot” concluded Mike Krack.
This is how the Aston Martin boss wanted to reduce expectations after a second free practice session where Fernando Alonso achieved first position and on the eve of a classification that will not be easy at all.
