NEW YORK –

Juan Soto will remain out of the New York Yankees’ starting lineup on Saturday when they face the Los Angeles Dodgers due to inflammation in his left elbow.

The right fielder missed his first game of the season on Friday in the series opener after being removed from Thursday’s game against Minnesota with forearm discomfort. A scan showed only swelling, which Soto called “a relief.”

“We’ll give him a couple of days,” manager Aaron Boone said Saturday afternoon.

Center fielder Trent Grisham will once again replace Soto in the lineup, with Aaron Judge switching from center to right. And for the second night in a row, Alex Verdugo was moved from fourth to Soto’s second spot in the batting order.

New York began the day with the American League’s best record at 45-20, but the Yankees had managed just one run in 14 innings since Soto exited Thursday’s win over the Twins.

Boone was asked if the disabled list is a possibility if Soto doesn’t progress in the coming days.

“It’s a possibility, but I hope it’s not the case,” he said.
